Fall Activities

We've had a busy fall, full of good things:
It started in September with the last camping trip of the season to Buckeye Lake, high in the Uinta Mountains. We knew there was a chance of rain, but we decided to chance it anyway. We had a new tent to try out!
It did rain, and the fishing was so bad that the first worm David put on his hook was the same one when he pulled his pole out of the water two days later. I enjoyed watching the clouds form and roll through; when it started raining, we retreated to the tent for pleasant book reading sessions and relaxation.

In between rain showers I played around with the camera, we took a walk, and enjoyed experimenting with recipes for our new dutch oven. This was the summer of new camping equipment which includes 2 new cots, sleeping bags, and . . . a new (to us) truck!

Sunny, after playing in the lake!

Even with the rain, we were glad we went camping. There were also some fishing trips to Lost Creek reservoir. David caught his limit, including catching one fish twice. The first time he caught it, he put it on the fish chain, secured the chain under a rock, and turned away. When he looked a few minutes later, both the chain and fish had disappeared! We figured it was a lost cause, but an hour or so later, he landed the same fish, complete with the chain dragging along behind it. This time the fish stayed caught!

We also met a new granddaughter, Alexis, who was born in August.  We enjoyed spending the afternoon with her and her family.

A garden (for the first time in 15 years) yielded a bounty of squash, pumpkins, cucumbers, tomatoes, and peppers, as well as some herbs: basil, sage, rosemary, and thyme. I spent two weekends canning a variety of tomato sauces, including spaghetti sauce, chili sauce, green tomato relish, and salsa. I enjoyed relearning how to can, and look forward to enjoying it all winter.

On one of the last warm fall days I took a lunchtime walk to City Creek Canyon. Such a beautiful time of year!
